SMD dropped their second studio album ‘tempory pleasure’ last week and it’s nothing short of awesome, but then it should be. SMD are bona fide dancefloor killers, and toured their first album ‘attack, decay, sustain, release’ relentlessly for about 2 years. I was lucky enough to catch them about 4 times, in various parts of the country. Most people don’t know that one half of SMD is James Ford, who was the knob-twiddler behind Mystery Jets, Klaxons, and Arctic Monkey’s second album, ‘Favourite worst nightmare’, and he plays drums for last shadow puppets. Yet he still found time to lend his production skills to the new Arctics album and Florence and the machines album ‘Lungs’.
In short, James and Jas are a talented pair, and I have no doubt they will continue to push the envelope, plus smash wherever they play. ‘Tempory Pleasure’ is testamont to that, sure it’s a little more mainstream, and boasts guests like Beth Ditto and Alexis from Hot Chip, but it’s amazing non the same. Cop it at the usual outlets.
