Sinden Interview

sinden_header

Sinden has been making waves on the electronic music scene for a minute now, not just with Herve as the Count & Sinden, but in his own right. I first saw him play in Newcastle at the ill-fated ‘Bad Robot’ night last year, and caught him again at Evolution festival this summer. He killed both times, and after meeting him at Evolution it also tranpired he’s a super nice guy too. I stole a couple of minutes of his time inbtween playing some shows in NYC and LA this weekend just gone for a little interview on the new Count & Sinden album, and what’s next for Sinden. Check it out.

So tell us about the new album, what’s it called and when’s it dropping?
New album title is a bit of a secret but i’m sure people could take a good guess. Its dropping early next year with a single leading up.

Are there any special collaborations on it?
All the collabs are pretty special without using loads of high profile people. Again, these will be public a bit later. The collaborations happened quite naturally with good friends of ours.

‘Beeper’ with Kid Sister was a massive track, how did that come about? With her being in Chicago and and you guys being based in London.

Being good friends with A-Trak he was able to link that up. Kid Sister had just been signed with Fools Gold and it was good timing. We have just returned the favour with a beat for her record which we’re all chuffed about.

When I spoke to you in Newcastle you were saying that you’d done a load of tracks, but had scrapped them due to the time it is taking to do the album. Is this because they maybe don’t sit well with current popular styles and sounds?

Its not about sitting well with whats happening since we do our thing anyhow, its just about making a record that we’re really happy with – to not forget the club stuff that we have made a name from. There was some vocalist problems, just general longness there but its sounding great now.

How long has the album taken to complete?
Its impossible to say. Most of it has been completed in the last 6-8 months but since we both have other commitments its taken that bit longer than we hoped. It isn’t something we’ve been working on every single day. We have to schedule time in around DJ dates, remixes, touring, other projects etc.

Can you shed any light on why Josh has so many psydonems?
I think he will tell you its a hark back to the old school dance alias thing which he grew up with. Producers would make tracks and use different names to suit them. I was reading Mark Pritchard has over 20 aliases. People should judge tunes without prejudice but they don’t, they make their minds up once they’ve heard whose behind it. Some people don’t make the connections.

What’s the deal with the ‘Mega Mega Mega’ parties? With you guys being booked all over the world is it difficult to honor those dates? And how do you pick artists to put on the bill?
We don’t run MMM that often, we just do it a few times a year. We ran 3 club nights in June at Plastic People, a small 200+ venue, we then finished that off with a warehouse party which was really epic – 1000 kids in raving in a sweat drenched warehouse.

Are you playing Ibiza at all this year?
I’ve been spinning at Eden at Reclaim The Dancefloor. Its been great, have been in good company playing alongside Chase & Status, Fake Blood etc. Its refreshing, bringing something different to the island outside the same same.

Have you anything planned for the future beyond the new album?

To probably start writing the next one!

Thanks dude!
