For our sixth instalment to the exclusive mixtape series we head over to the Emerald Isle, home of Schizofonics, a duo who have been Djing for years, but have recently starting producing. They've already had a lot of acclaim and have just realesed their first EP on Bodytonic's label, Mr Jones Records. But rather than me write an extensive intro, I thought I'd rather catch up with Shortie (Pictured left) to ask him a few questions.

So Shortie, how the hell are you?
I'm good man, things been busy the past few months, just how we like em!
When did you start producing, because it was fairly recent wasn't it? But you've DJed for years?
Yeah well 'Schizofonics' was born about 18 months ago but me and Paul have known each other about 10yrs. We met while DJing on a pirate station in Dublin in like '99 or something. Start djing in The Kitchen (Bono's club) and been doing it since.
So why start producing?
Basically it's a progression. As a DJ, there's certain songs or a certain sound you wanna hear, best way to find that sound is to make it yourself. It started with remixes, editing tracks for your set, adding a little something to beef up a track then eventually we were making original tunes.
It's not taken you long to get where you are production-wise, haven't you done a track with Detboi?
Yeah well it's 'supposed to be' on the hush. Detboi is a good friend. The Dublin scene is quite small but also creating some great music. There's Detboi, Lorcan Mak, Arveene & Misk, it's a close knit thing.
We're working on a little something but not sure what we're gonna do with it, if anything. Detboi's album is out next month on Cheap Thrills and trust me, it's seriously good! We're lucky to have someone like him around and involved it what we're doing.
Tell us about the 'twitter fam'.
Haha Twitterfam is a good connection of friends we've not met from the north of England hahaha. Nah seriously, Twitter has been such a great tool in the past year. It's underrated. Peaple think 'aw I don't wanna know what Tiga had for breakfrast' but it's so much more than that. We met Lady Chann through Twitter, got our tunes into a lot of playlists that way. It's aGreat tool for upcoming producers to establish themselves and also for big names to find new music.
What's 2010 got in store for you? Any major plans?
Well our debut EP is out April 12th on Mr.Jones Records. We've got another few tunes dropping on a Japanese label TCY Recordings in June/July so see what happens there.
Thanks!
