Pinch is an iconic face within the world of dubstep and label boss of Tectonics. Last month we caught ear of his next release which will see collaborations with Swamp 81 headboy Loefah and Roska, with his trademark percussion. Pinch collaborations are hard to come by considering his last and only one was late 2006 with ‘ASBO’ which was coincidently released on Tectonic.
The A-side ‘Broken’ is a collaboration with the two figureheads of dubstep who have helped define the very meaning of the term. With Loefah, ‘Bass’ is the key ingredient within his productions whether he uses drones, stabs or squelches. You can see how he has influenced the production of the track by making sure Pinch stays away from the wobbly sub. Together they have forged a track through the full weight of the bass and consistent snares. The track is shuddering, exactly what dubstep should be.
Roska comes into collaborate on the B-side ‘Paranormal Activity’. Recognised for 130bpm productions, the collaboration has seen him take it up to 140bpm where Pinch likes to hangout. The increase in bpm has helped make the Roska percussion sound much more fierce against he dark reverb from the layered drums. You can buy a physical copy here and digital copy of the release here.
