The start of the month saw London record label Audio Doughnuts show up and take over Breaks of 10 Sessions. They brought with them their three brightest young stars on their roster, the newbies they’re nurturing for global takeover, the young guns waiting in the wings to showcase what they’re capable of. We sat down with each one of them, recorded their sets on the night, and are presenting this to you in a three part series, with part one being Orgy Banton.
Audio Doughnuts turns one years old in November, and to celebrate they’re throwing a party with an indescribably hefty lineup, essentially showcasing a whos-who of UK bass musc right now. If you live in London or the surrounding area, I urge you to check it out.
First however, we catch up with Orgy Banton.
How long have you been producing and DJing for?
I have been DJing for 3 years and will hopefully get in to production soon
What got you into it?
I got in to DJing by one thing leading to another. I used to skate years back and the older skaters I knew were in to graffiti and eventually I got in to it as well. Most of the graffiti videos I used to watch on youtube would normally have drum & bass playing in the background and which then lead to me getting in to drum & bass.
For a few months I was buying any drum & bass cd I would find. One day my mums friend was round who was in to drum & bass and I was talking to her about it and she introduced me in to dubstep. After that I literally downloaded any Skream tune I could find and was perhaps because I finally found Skream – Midnight Request Line which I was looking for since the Roll Deep vs Slk sidewinder clash.
After a few months of listening to drum & bass and dubstep I decided to buy decks which I got nicely hooked up by Mums mate who works at a DJ shop. When I got my decks I went to straight to HMW and bought Zinc ft Eksman – drive by car, then a few days later I went BM in soho and copped Mala – lean forward/learn & Benny Page – step up/swagger.
Describe your sound
Music with good basslines
What does it mean to you to be part of the Audio Doughnuts family?
Trying to answer this without being cringey was kinda hard haha. Quite a lot actually. Now that I’m a part of Audio Doughnuts I’ve been getting more sets, meeting more people and getting promoted more. All of the people I’ve met that are in A.D have been bless. I also think its good how everyone on A.D is young and getting noticed which is heavy, Big up Henry
Who else do you rate on the Audio Doughnuts roster?
The rest of R/E/C, Henry, Onoe Caponoe, Widowmaker, TOYC, Clicks & whistles, R1 Ryders, Niko, Legaspi, Mistamen
What can we expect from you next?
Hopefully some tracks and I will be launching a night soon.
