Amsterdam

I recently had the pleasure of travelling to Amsterdam with Unit44 business partner Steven Dunn & his Contax 137 MD 35mm. We were later joined by local institution champion Jack White of the Town Wall. The trip was split pretty evenly between business and pleasure. The business side of the trip will be posted over on the Unit44 blog however the Breaksof10 post was all about Amsterdam’s amazing streets, shops, and beers. This is a place with truly inspirational architecture and hands down some of the greatest retail experiences I have ever had.

Here is just 25% of what we got to see.

It’s rare you’ll find an expensive bike on the streets of Amsterdam – they are purely for function and anything too shiny will quickly grab the eye of the unsavoury.

Mr White joined us part way through the week giving us just enough time to secure this little treat off the Nine Streets. When I said to the owner ‘this is my favourite bar in Amsterdam’ his reply, in perfect English was ‘mine too’. Brilliant.

We found ourselves in Red Wing where we were pointed in the direction of a few Amsterdam gems.

The first being Red Wing sister store and denim house Tenue de Nimes. A beautiful store with a great selection of denim, cut & sew, outerwear, fragrances & shoes.

Denim brands such as Real Japan Blues, Nudie, Edwin, Raleigh Denim, & You Must Create.

Also had the odd bottle of liquor.

E.T. moment.

This is actually the only image we have from my favourite store in Amsterdam: The Jefferson Hotel. The store was dark and didn’t feel like a store at all… go figure what it felt like. Yes a Hotel. With full reception area the scent of fresh flowers from burning candles, a globe drinks cabinet, lounge area, & spa. There are not enough words to give you an accurate feel for this store. i recommend you see it for yourself.

Beers, cameras and Toys. It’s almost a shame that Amsterdam is known for 10% of what actually goes down out there.

Beers and Tequila in the afternoon was a great final day with artists The London Police & Handiedan. Cafe Belgique had an amazing feel – definitely somewhere you could loose a few hours/days/brain cells.

Massive shout to Dunny for the great photos. Managed to get this one of him when he replaced camera with beer.
