It’s a funny thing meeting your heroes. Sometimes your left feeling disappointed as in they didn’t actually meet the hype. In some way they didn’t live up to years of built up expectations. None of this applies to my meet with C215. The prolific Parisian street artist has been on my radar since the incarnation of my street art obsession. With clean cut lines, iconic imagery, and breathtaking details C215 stands in his own category of street art mastery. His attention to detail has been witnessed all over the world on the most unlikely of canvases. Portraits and animals are his usual depictions however he never ceases to amaze. From Newcastle to New York, Fez to London – I take great pleasure in sharing a conversation following his return from Morocco.

Towards the end of 2008 I set forth towards New York City on an expedition of cultural enlightenment. For a month I roamed the city streets, galleries, sneaker shops, music venues, hang outs, and of course sampled the best coffee NYC had to offer. A great laid back vibe thrown together in a clean-cut space with streetwear skateboards and sneakers. Butter definitely Knows!

I’m not sure how to introduce Jay, I haven’t known him too long, and we actually got to know each other through twitter. He is however, one of the most driven and ambitious young men I have ever met, easily juggling DJ gigs, a residency, music making and his degree. Some people mistake this drive for arrogance and as a result, you hear many different opinions around Newcastle of this particular DJ, all of the negative ones appear however to be from people who have never actually met him, and all are probably closely related to jealousy. He’s come a long way in a short space of time, and I can say it’s been a pleasure meeting and DJing with him. I caught up with him over iChat recently and did this interview, read on to find out more from a DJ you’ll be hearing a lot of very soon.
