Last weekend Breaksof10 was at none other than the Warehouse Project in Manchester for the final date of the Groove Armada Black Light tour. This date has been on the Breaks calendar since the WHP line up release earlier this year. Dubbed as the greatest night of the 2008 programme I was eagerly anticipating some new material blended with some classic favourites. So I was tackling two firsts last Sunday; my first Groove show and also my first Warehouse visit.
About 3 months ago I bought myself a Canon AV-1 film SLR camera, which I’d always wanted, for the measly sum of £17.50 from ebay. I’ve always been into shooting portraits, so I set off on a small project, so shoot some portraits of my friends. Some didn’t turn out how I expected, and because I have never had a film SLR before, it was a huge learning curve. However, I’m pretty happy with these, so check them out.
Some opportunities arise that would only appeal to a minute few. I for one am a member of the “few”. Therefore when I heard rumours of an abandoned ghost village on the west coast of Scotland I was quick to make a few calls for confirmation. Not only were the rumours true, if we acted quickly we would be on the heels of none other than the Agents of Change. Not unknown to Breaksof10 the Agents of Change consist of six creative identities who bring together otherwise separate styles and methods to create truly stunning results. So needless to say I required a photographer and luckily Richard Kenworthy from Cameras and Cranksets (link) shared in my enthusiasm for the project. The scene was set for a truly unique adventure and for the first visitors to the Pollphaill Gallery – “Free Admission” for all, simply read on.
Close friends of the Breaks Prefab77 have been busy in the studio of late working towards their first solo show stateside. The Kentucky show will see a brand new series of pieces; bigger, bolder, and brighter whilst retaining that anti establishment – anti authoritarian edge. “SHOT AT FROM BOTH SIDES” hits the BLDG on the 13th November and seems like a natural progression following the immense success attained from the ENEMY OF PROMISE special release in the US. With the Prefab studio well and truly off limits to the general public, close mutual friend Richard Kenworthy was given a sneak peak of the new pieces, however even he isn’t giving much away…
I’ve got to admit, these are pretty dope. It took Rebel 8 a year to get these spot on, and apparently the photos just don’t do them justice. The matirial is the same as the waterproof cotton that Barbour jackets use, and they age really well. The hats are an online exclusive, and are realeaed today at 10:00am Pacific US time, which is 5:00pm over here, so don’t sleep on them! More photos after the jump.
A sneak peak of one of the most exciting projects I have ever witnessed. We travel up North to see first hand the remnants of the Ghost Village following a visit from the Agents of Change.
Last month Bas Keep, Ben Hennon and Dan Lacey were up north for some seriously sneaky goings on. The results were breath taking. Ride have just released the teaser with the full video out for all to see tomorrow. Keep dialled in… Ride BMX UK
Its well and truly Warehouse season and If last year is anything to go by we can expect five months of big music and sell out parties. Tom and I have each hand picked a few dates and plan on documenting the entire experience for the Breaks. The first date in my diary is the 18th October and the unveiling of Groove Armadas Black Light experience. The 2008 date was hailed as the WHP night of the year and therefore I’m expecting great things. For the Groove date I will be accompanied by Jason Hopper and Steve Dunn from North East music and media collective one20. I will therefore be including industry interviews and insights from the events to create real editorial depth.
All details on the Warehouse Project and event dates after the Jump.
