Nuno Oliveira Photography

31.12.09

This mini interview and feature came about when Nuno liked one of the photos on my flickr, I was pretty taken aback and stoked as I’m a avid fan of his photography on flickr and his site olivejuuuuice. This lead me to get in contact and see if he was down for a mini interview and a feature, luckily he was. Like Joe Skilton, who I posted on earlier, Nuno does a lot of his work with film camera, especially Lomo’s, and I love how he cross processes a lot of his snaps, giving them a whole new feel and edge. Check out the photos and a mini interview below.

Joe Skilton Photography

28.12.09

I’ve known Joe for a good few years now, we used to ride BMX together in York, and when we both filtered away from that I saw him less and less, just here and there on nights out in York, and I see him even less now he lives in Edinburgh. Anyway, joe takes awesome photos. Always has, and probably always will. He favours odd film cameras and his shots are pretty much always candid, never posed, capturing that moment, whether it be calm, crazy or any number of situations inbetween. His photos are a pretty true to form representation of youth, growing up, and the pains and triumphs of everything this encompasses. Check out some of his work by hitting the link.

An Introduction to Darrell Abrams and Laurus.

26.12.09

It’s been twelve months since my epic adventure to the West Coast of America. As they venture forward into the 09′/10′ season it seems only fitting to introduce you to some of the characters I met along the way. New York felt like home thanks to the people I met and the inner sanctum they introduced me to. I arrived on December 4th and the snow season was starting to gain momentum. In-between exploring the likes of Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Long Island there was the mountain. During my stay I spent the majority of my time in great company riding some of the East Coasts finest. This is where I was introduced to Darrell Abrams, not only an extremely talented snowboarder and instructor; he was also an undeniable character and extrovert within the seasonaire community. Unknown to many is that Darrell is the driving force and creator of Laurus which strives to create original, innovative, and exciting products that not only demonstrate practicality on the mountain but also incorporate the snowsports lifestyle. The products reflect that unfaltering desire to get on the mountain and shred with a refreshing approach in design that results in an aesthetically pleasing functional range of garments for everyday use. 12 months on I found time to catch up with Darrell to gather further understanding of his vision for Laurus and any developments over the last year.

Alan1 Interview

22.12.09

Posted by Guest blogger Mooken Tooken Alakazam!

Alan1 is an Electro wonderkid from Rome. His tunes have the jolt of Ed Banger but the warmth of Chicago, and it’s no surprise Erol Alkan has been pestering him for his freshest tracks. His fine work has been vinyl pressed on the Nature and Final Frontier labels under the watchful eye of head honcho Marco Passarani. He’s been working the live circuit and his amazing MPC show at Sonar left 200 or so afternoon dancers in a sweaty mess. I caught up with Alan1 over t’internet, and asked him some things…

One20 presents an Art slash Music Mash-Up

22.12.09

So when the boys at One20 sat down to create an event to break down a few walls the conclusion was a mash-up of street art gentle giants Prefab77, with, on the ones and twos, Scottish heavy hitter Craig Smith, mixed with local gems VERY VERY, and Shindigs Mark Lowy. The stage for this culture collision was Newcastle’s minimalist, derelict, post blitz, urban music venue; The CUT. The crumbling walls and stripped back décor provided the perfect canvas for the anti-establishment, tongue in cheek, and subversive internationally acclaimed artists. This was combined with some cleverly placed lighting and a not so inconspicuous Funktion-One sound system. The result being a new look to the North East venue and the scene was now set for an awe-inspiring night of music.

King Apparel A/W 2009 Outerwear

20.12.09

We have teamed up with King Apparel and Newcastle-based production heavyweights ‘Decibel’ to bring you a look into King Apparel’s 2009 autumn / winter outerwear range. It is without a doubt a strong collection, with plenty of cut and sew details and a real Britishness to the range. As well as that, we have the latest Decibel remix, that of Foamo’s ‘Wardance’, for you to download. The track has been seeing a lot of airplay on the radio and DJs alike, so cop that as well.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
