Last year I wrote a post that revolved around the return of the Warehouse Project for 2009. My buzz was pretty apparent back then and I didn’t want to simply write about wetting my knickers again upon looking at this year’s line-up (even if I did – view it here). WHP Manchester kind of writes the book for me. From the moment you enter the venue everything seems thought-out and planned to perfection in order to elevate your experience. This ethic is also applied to the design and the teaser activity that precedes the first date. The imagery used is iconic and they have really taken ownership of the colour scheme used. I wanted to take a look back to the beginning of the WHP artwork. The images hit my inbox this afternoon. Take a peak.

MO:OK
24.08.10
Anyone who has spent five minutes in my company will know a few home truths. New York seems to impact every element of my day and my fondest memories are from my two trips stateside. I’m passionate about my clothes, street-art, and music. In Newcastle you can find a few big apple references, be it the slice joint in the Grainger or the street-wear at Electrik Sheep. However, now, providing the beat, we have MO:OK. Following a few acclaimed parties at the Telegraph they move onto bigger things and takeover live music venue the Cluny for a bank holiday special.

After months of waiting, teasers and hype, The Count & Sinden release their debut album ‘Mega Mega Mega’ today, almost two years after their last single ‘Beeper’ with Kid Sister. I was lucky enough to get the album last week, and give it a throughly good listen, and I’ve gotta say, it was worth the wait. It’s no secret that Herve is a fan of many musical genre’s, as many don’t realise he operates under various different guises, depending on what type of music he’s making. The album is a reflection of that, covering everything from UK bass, soca, tropical, pop and most in between. My personal favorite track, is the lead single, ‘After Dark’ with the Mystery Jets. I know it may seem an obvious choice, but it’s so just so damn catchy!
There’s also a host of special guests from people like Bashy, Rye Rye (the album has a re-edited version of ‘hardcore girls’) and dubstep lady of the moment Katy B. The album flows surprisingly nicely considering the range of genres included, and actually in a way reflects the current state of UK Dance music, effortlessly switching between genres and taking influence from things like garage, dubstep and tropical. As far as UK music goes, we live in the age of ‘Cross Genre’ and this album is a shining representation of that.
To celebrate the release, we’ve teamed up with Domino Records to give away two copies of the album! All you have to do it fill in the form after the jump and we’ll pick two winners at random. Good luck!

We rarely post links to parties on here, but when it’s something this good, we couldn’t not! Close friend of the Breaks Louis Louis is hosting Sheffield’s Club Pony on the 27th August, and has invited on hell of a line up! Some of the UK’s best up and coming acts are playing, including Northern bass merchants Decibel and the latest in our exclusive mixtape series, Clouds. As well as Mele, who is signed to Sinden’s label ‘Grizzly’, is Breaks of 10! Yes, myself and Breaks writer Yuriko will be starting off the party in style with a lot of tunes that you probably won’t expect. This is going to be amazing, so if you fancy it check out the facebook event for the full run down, and check the full flyer after the jump!

Exclusive Mixtape Series #10: Clouds
10.08.10

I am beyond stoked to have these boys on board for the mixtape series, Clouds are literally blowing up right now! They’ve just signed to Turbo, got a record coming out on Fake Blood’s label, and are constantly knocking out dance floor destroying tunes. We had them in Newcastle to play a gig a few short months ago, and it was only their fifth ever gig, yet had almost an albums worth of tunes under their belt, a selection of these, all as yet unreleased, feature on this mixtape. Consequently, Clouds have decided to withhold the tracklisting for this, as to not reveal the identities of the exclusive tracks, and so you can play a little guessing game with yourself while listening.
This is an awesome way to round off our first ten exclusive mixtapes, and you can download it here.

Congrats Mark & Jayne

It’s not often we go all personal on the Breaks, then again it’s not often one of our friends gets married. Mark Lowry has been a massive musical influence of mine for a good few years now and recently became a good friend. So, congrats to Mark & Jayne, as they travel to Sweden to tie the knot. All the best.

I usually hate people telling me I’m lucky, but since this isn’t about my job, in this sense I am really lucky. I have a lot of friends who are all constantly on their grind making amazing music, just the other day my flatmate Jay got in at 9am from the studio after finishing the latest Decibel latest track, and it’s BEZERK. But it’s great, I DJ for fun, once a week, and do it for the love of music and an escape from my intense job, and what makes it better is getting to play all my friends music, its a great feeling, and I’m proud to watch them grow and improve with every tune. After the jump is a selection of the new music some of my friends are putting out, which may seem a little biased, but trust me, I would not be posting it here if I didn’t fully believe in the music and them. Enjoy.

Martelo Interview
27.07.10

When I first started going out with my boyfriend we, like many couples, had that conversation where we say who our free pass fling is. Mine was Mos Def, his was the actress Rashida Jones. Unlike Louis I went on to see my free pass crush in the flesh at a concert in Shepherd’s Bush, unfortunately the reality of my dreamboat was not quite how I had imagined … Luckily I think I’ve found a new free pass candidate.
London based DJ/ Producer Ryan Maher aka Martelo may ring a few bells for you most recently as Santogold’s tour DJ but there is a whole lot more to learn about this music maker. You will of course know the “Do you all have your 3-D glasses” mixtape and if you don’t, find it now. His steady rise from success to success can be tracked by the caliber of attention he’s attracted and the bookings he’s playing. A-Trak and Kanye West and Coachella festival and of course Fabric to name but a few.
Martelo has managed to fuse a smoothness associated with Hip Hop and R’n’B with that irresistible and current roughness of grimier sounds.Want more? Read on.
